The legal framework for handling research data in Germany is primarily defined by German copyright law, data protection regulations and institutional regulations. Navigating this landscape can feel like wading through a legal swamp: a complex, overlapping web of rules that can be difficult to traverse.
This event is specifically aimed at researchers from both European and non-European countries who are conducting research in Germany. It will provide a brief overview of the key legal basics governing the handling of research data, with a focus on German copyright protection law and related rights and the principles of Good Scientific Practice.
From a copyright law perspective, even the legal classification of research data presents significant challenges. This is crucial not only for the reuse of data from others, but also for accessing, sharing, and publishing data generated within one’s own project. Closely related are regulations on Good Scientific Practice. Handling those questions may become more complex when research crosses international borders, where copyright regulations may differ substantially. To help researchers avoid legal pitfalls, this session will go beyond theory and focus on practical examples drawn from actual research scenarios. Participants will also explore tools and best practices for navigating through the legal swamp.
Registration for the event is not necessary, but possible so we can send you materials directly after the event and inform you of any changes
